Former Judge John Contini — pros and cons mediation vs lawyers

What are the pros and cons of divorce mediators vs divorce lawyers?

Divorce mediators have “no dog in the fight,” as the saying goes, ie, having no agenda other than to help the litigant or client achieve a peaceful resolution and total closure in their contentious and ongoing dispute; so to this extent, the divorce “mediator” is truly impartial and honest on every level, as they give the litigant and client an objective and honest assessment of all the relative strengths and weaknesses of their position and case … as opposed to, the divorce “lawyer” and the lawyer’s role in all cases … The lawyer is partial to only one side, ie, partial to the client who is paying them; and so the lawyer is an advocate for that litigant, whether pursuing a peaceful result or whether the case drags on for years at a huge expense financially, draining on every other level too, ie, in depletion of the client’s emotional and mental health too — all of which affects the client’s physical health over time as well, aging the client tremendously. This begs the question, “Why litigate when you can mediate?”
